Tribal Council Addresses Crime In The Community

The Quechan Tribal Council is concerned with the rise of violent crimes occurring in our community. Violence is a public health crisis that has plagued the Quechan Tribal Community for far too long. We will take an important step forward in addressing the needs of our community.

The Tribal Council is committed to reducing violent crimes on our reservation and committed to build a strong community. We are investing in the safety of the tribal membership, and will be starting with the installation of security cameras in all Subdivisions. The cameras are not there to invade privacy but to deter crimes and ensure safety among the families and visitors.

The Tribal Council contacted the Imperial County District Attorney's office with concerns of the case not going forward. We were informed the matter is not closed as additional information was needed by the submitting law enforcement agency.

A council meeting with the Sheriffs Office Lieutenant in charge of the Winterhaven Station will be scheduled for tomorrow to discuss the tribes concerns.

We would like to encourage our community members to report any information on any crimes they may be witnessed to. For your safety you may remain anonymous to report crimes. The telephone numbers to report information regarding crimes are as follows.
