CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
- October 3, 2022 – Petition for Nominations can be picked up from the Tribal Secretary at the Administration Office
- All nominations must be submitted to Council and certified as a legal candidate within “10 days of [receiving] nominations” per QTC Article V-Section-2
- November 25, 2022 – 5:00 P.M LAST DAY for NOMINATIONS to be accepted by Council for Official Ballot. Certified Candidates pick up Candidate packets at the Election office open until 7:00 P.M - ?

- October 3, 2022 – All requests must be filed with the Secretary of the Council and will be picked up by the Board when recorded and received.

CONTEST OF ELECTION
- Thursday December 8, 2022 or December 9, 2022 – Last day to Contest the Election. Statements must be turned in to the Election Office by 5:00 P.M (The date depends on the time Tribal Council accepts the canvass). If there is a contest, Certification by the Tribal Council will be at a later date.

County of Imperial - On Saturday, September 24, 2022, at approximately 1718 hours, Imperial County Sheriff’s Deputies from the Winterhaven Station responded to the 1800 block of Sapphire Lane, in Winterhaven, to investigate a report of shots fired. When deputies arrived, they located two male subjects suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Deputies along with Officer’s from the Quechan Police Department began life saving measures until Paramedics arrived on scene. One victim was transported by family members and the other was transported by Paramedics to the Yuma Regional Medical Center. One male subject succumbed from his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Investigators identified the victim as Jesus Galindo, Sr. 41 years of age from Winterhaven. The second shooting victim was later discharged from the hospital.
While on scene, a possible suspect, who matched the description provided by witnesses, was located two blocks away. The male subject was identified as Bishap Laurenzana 22 years of age out of Yuma, Arizona. After talking to several witnesses and interviewing Laurenzana he was later placed under arrest for Murder and several other charges and later booked into the Imperial County Jail.
The Investigators are still seeking the public’s help in this active investigation and anyone with information on this case is encouraged to contact the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division at (442) 265-2105.

TDS is scheduled to work on the phones on Monday, September 19, 2022.
Applications can be picked up at the Tribal office at the Receptionist Desk, Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Deadline will be Monday, October 3, 2022 at 5:00 pm.
Pageant to be held at the Paradise Event Center Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 7:00 pm.

Tribal and Non-Tribal workers wanted for the Quechan Indian Days Celebration.
The Quechan Human Resources Department is seeking (15) Tribal Members and Non-Tribal Member applicants to temporarily supplement the workforce for the upcoming Quechan Indian Days Celebration on October 13, 2022 to October 16, 2022.
The coverage area for this location will be under the direction of the Grounds and Landscape Supervisor Mr. Michael Jackson Jr.

On Tuesday, September 13, 2022 the 2022 Election Board members were sworn in in the Tribal Council Chambers by Police Chief Kirk Nirva with the Quechan Tribal Council members in attendance.
The 2022 General Election for a President, Vice-President, and five Council Members will be on Monday, December 5, 2022.

The Flood Watch remains in effect through midnight, September 10, 2022 but has been adjusted to remove Yuma and La Paz Counties.
Showers will still be possible in the area of Yuma and La Paz Counties. Outside of the Watch Area, northern Arizona is the most likely to see rain. Plan any road trips and outdoor activities accordingly.

In preparation for the continuing monsoon and Hurricane Kay, a self-service sandbag station is available outside The Quechan Housing Authority Office located at 1860 West Sapphire Lane, Winterhaven, Calif.
There will be bags, sand and shovels available.

A Flood Watch has been issued for Friday, September 9th @ 8:00AM until 12:00AM Sunday, September 11th by the National Weather Service (Phoenix, AZ Forecast Office)
Flooding caused by excessive rainfall associated with the tropical system Kay is possible.
Areas affected are portions of southwest Arizona and California, including the following areas, in southwest Arizona, Central La Paz, Gila River Valley, Kofa, Parker Valley, Southeast Yuma County and Yuma. In California, Chiriaco Summit, Chuckwalla Mountains, Chuckwalla Valley, Imperial County Southeast, Imperial County Southwest, Imperial County West, Imperial Valley, Joshua Tree NP East, Joshua Tree NP West, Palo Verde Valley and Salton Sea.
The flood watch will be from Friday morning through Saturday evening.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Abundant tropical moisture associated with the tropical system Kay will spread north into the area resulting in scattered to widespread rainfall. Extended periods of moderate rain will be capable of producing rural and urban flooding. Bands of heavier rain and embedded thunderstorms will be capable of producing higher rain rates which could also lead to flash flooding.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Significant moisture & even rain bands from Hurricane Kay will increase the flash flooding risk Friday into Saturday. Portions of southern Cali & SW AZ currently have the highest risk for rainfall, which includes the Imperial/El Centro areas.

Hurricane Kay will track northward towards the southwest CONUS (The continental United States) and potentially bring impacts to Arizona and California as early as Friday, September 9, 2022.

COVID Data Tracker shows that in June 2022, people ages 50 years and older with two booster doses were 14 times less likely to die from COVID-19 than unvaccinated people of the same age and three times less likely to die than vaccinated people of the same age with at least one booster. Additionally, a new CDC study conducted between March and May 2022, during the Omicron BA.2 surge, found that COVID-19 hospitalization rates increased more among adults ages 65 years and older relative to those in younger adults. Among adults who were hospitalized, 95% had one or more underlying medical condition, and rates of COVID-19-associated hospitalizations were 3.4 times higher among unvaccinated adults than adults vaccinated with at least one booster or additional dose.

Storms are starting to erupt over higher terrain areas of SE CA & the Baja peninsula. While not everyone will see rain, any storms entering this area will be capable of intense rainfall rates & localized flash flooding. DO NOT attempt to drive through flowing water.
