HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO
11 PM MST THIS EVENING...
Southeast winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 70 mph expected in Parker Valley, Kofa, Yuma, Central La Paz County, Southeast Yuma County and Gila River Valley from 11 AM this morning to 11 PM MST this evening.
Very difficult driving conditions, especially for larger vehicles traveling along roads with crosswinds. Light, unsecured objects will become airborne. Moderate tree and
minor structural damage possible.
Widespread rainfall totals of 1-4" probable in SE California with isolated accumulations in excess of 5 inches possible resulting in significant and possibly locally catastrophic impacts today.
· Much lower amounts generally closer to 0.10-1.00" across south-central Arizona with higher amounts across southern Gila County.
· High winds in excess of 60 mph expected across SE California and SW Arizona later today. Gusts in excess of 40 mph possible across south-central Arizona.
· Severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds possible with a risk for a few spin-up tornadoes across SE California and SW Arizona.

• Increased severe weather risk today with damaging winds the primary threat and isolated spin-up tornadoes possible across southeast California and southwest Arizona.
Hurricane Hilary is rapidly intensifying in the Pacific Ocean southwest of Mexico on Thursday and is on track to deliver potentially significant rain and flooding to parts of the Southwest as a weaker system starting this weekend.
Sandbags are available for pickup in the parking area adjacent to the Quechan Housing Office located at 1860 Sapphire Ln, Winterhaven, CA 92283. Please take only what’s needed as supplies are limited. This is a self-serve service.

Although the Monsoon brings welcome rains and relief from the summer heat, the thunderstorms that come with the Monsoon bring their own hazards. In fact, this is the most dangerous time of year weather-wise in the Southwest. So before the season gets underway, it is a very good idea to review these safety tips.

The desert monsoon season begins in June and continues through September. With it comes higher humidity, which can lead to thunderstorms, heavy rain, lightning, hail, high winds, flash flooding, dust storms and extreme heat.
The Office of Emergency Management urges drivers to be prepared for summer storms. Please follow these safety tips and make sure to check and replace your windshield wiper blades if needed.
Expect wet highways, possible flooding and debris.
With strong monsoon storms forecast in much of Arizona this week, be ready for wet roads, potential flooding and even additional dust storms across parts of the state.

Increasing moisture will result in higher shower and thunderstorm chances starting later today, with better chances on Tuesday.
Daily chances for storms mainly across high terrain areas all week, with minor risk of extending into south-central and southwest Arizona.
Localized Major Heat Risk on Wednesday and Thursday. An Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for the Phoenix, Yuma, and El Centro Metro areas.
Increasing moisture and slightly cooler temperatures are expected this weekend.
We are monitoring a potential tropical system this weekend which may bring significant impacts to the region.
